At Thursday's weekly Cabinet meeting, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a briefing from the National Development Council on a plan to boost the nation's talent competitiveness. The premier said that the government must expand its investment in skills, training talented individuals domestically and recruiting from abroad, in order to advance the artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transition, and add impetus to Taiwan's innovation-driven model of economic development. This investment will ensure that the nation continues to be a critical force within the thriving global economy.
The premier said the plan revolves around two main pillars: strengthening the competitiveness of the nation's future talent and attracting global talent. By 2028, the plan aims to provide professional training to 450,000 people across fields including AI, and to attract 120,000 foreign professionals and 80,000 foreign technical personnel, so as to provide the ample talent needed for the next stage of national development and to fortify Taiwan's competitive advantages.
