The Hsinchu Science Park (HSP) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Yokosuka Research Park of Japan to promote
IT business opportunities and engage in technical cooperation.
One of the most prominent research centers for
IT technology in Japan, the Yokosuka Research Park hosts
R&D centers for prominent companies such as NTT, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Fujitsu, Toshiba, and Mitsubishi.
The MOU was signed at a meeting between National Science Council Vice Chairman Huang Wen-hsiung and Yokosuka Research Park representative Dr. Shingo Ohmori at the end of November 2007.
On that same day, the HSP also held a celebration for its 27th anniversary, with business and government officials attending.
In remarks at the celebration, HSP Adminstration Director General Huang Der-ray said the HSP is not only working to keep with global industry trends, but it also aims to creating a cluster for innovative industries.
Science parks, which host many internationally competitive companies, offer the best environment and results for clusters of innovation, said Huang Wen-hsiung. Thus, the many companies with potential at the parks should be nurtured, he said.
According to Huang Der-ray, the HSP continues to build on its industry output base in 2006 of
NTD 1.12 trillion. In 2007, the HSP is aiming for output of
NTD 1.25 trillion, which would account for 1/10th of total output from Taiwan's manufacturing industries.
