Nissan has opened a new design center in Taiwan through its manufacturing partner in Taiwan, Yulon Motors.
The Yulon-Nissan Design Center (YNDC), which covers nearly 3,300 square meters and was built at a cost of
NTD 340 million, joins the ranks of Nissan's six major design studios in Japan, the US, and the UK.
Together these six design studios are charged with working both cooperatively and competitively to create next-generation vehicle designs.
Yulon already began work on a major design for Nissan during the first half of the year, said Yulon Group CEO Kenneth Yan.
In the future, Taiwan's design blueprints will serve as for models for new vehicles aimed at the markets of Japan, Taiwan, Mainland China, the US, and Europe, said Yan. The opening of the center marks Taiwan's first global design opportunity, and according to sources, the Taiwan center will design a 2.0-3.5L vehicle.
At the end of the year, to coordinate with Nissan's global sales plans, Taiwan will become a shipping base for Nissan. Nissan expects to export 5,000 3.5-ton commercial trucks to Mexico, and Taiwan will serve as Nissan's shipping base, said Yan.
