The number of companies and workers at Taiwan's three major science parks – Hsinchu Science Park, Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP), and Southern Taiwan Science Parks (CTSP) – has increased, according to the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting, and Statistics (DGBAS).
DGBAS announced the figures in late Oct., which were based on data provided by the Executive Yuan National Science Council.
In Aug., there were 607 companies at the three major science parks, an increase of 21 companies over the previous year. Revenues earned by companies at the three parks totaled
NTD 1.2251 trillion during first eight months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 11.6%.
Not including foreign labor, the three parks had a total of 184,506 employees, compared to 169,981 from last year – a clear indication of increasing job opportunities. The Hsinchu Science Park had the highest number of workers, totaling 119,480 persons at the end of Aug.
Hsinchu Science Park earned
NTD 737.3 billion, comprising 60.2% of science park earnings; the STSP followed with earnings of
NTD 331.3 billion. Meanwhile, the CTSP earned
NTD 156.5 billion, an increase of 54.7% over the previous year.
The largest sectors were the IC industry, which comprised 51.8% of all revenues, earning
NTD 634.6 billion, which represented a 6.7% increase over last year. Optoelectronics came in second, growing 23.2% to
NTD 474.2 billion.
During the first eight months of the year, the three science parks exported
NTD 721.8 worth of goods, showing growth of 9.3%, and comprising 14% of total exports from Taiwan.
