The Chungkang Export Processing Zone (Chungkang EPZ) is providing
assistance to businesses to develop a 'corridor' offering added-processing
services through companies at Taichung Harbor's Free Trade Zone.
Strengthening the cooperation between companies in these two zones will
create a "corridor" offering more business opportunities, according to an
Economic Daily News report.
To date, the Chungkang EPZ has approved investment from nearly 60
companies. Last year the Chungkang EPZ saw business revenues of
NTD 31
billion, and this figure is expected to surpass 40 billion in 2007. In the
past two years, the Taichung FTZ approved 15 companies for entry, five of
which operate as harbor businesses.
The Chungkang EPZ administration office said that it will work with the
Taichung FTZ to find the best way to promote interaction between companies
at the Chungkang EPZ and the Taichung FTZ, and 'to create an effect
greater than the sum of its parts'.
The cooperative effort between the two zones will help companies enjoy the
advantage of moving goods within bonded areas. After goods from companies
at Taichung FTZ are approved by customs, they can then be sent to the
Chungkang EPZ for processing. After processing, the goods may be sold in
other bonded zones.
The Chungkang EPZ office said that one company has already utilized this
"corridor" between the two zones. This company has commissioned another
company in the Taichung Free Trade Zone to perform additional processing,
after which the goods are sold in other bonded areas. So far this
operation has been running smoothly, said the Chungkang EPZ office.
This new 'corridor' could bring an added business advantage to companies,
said the Chungkang EPZ administration office. As profit margins grow
slimmer and competition grows intense, this could become a business
operations model, said the office.
