The Ministry of Economic Affairs (
MOEA) and representatives from Canada recently met on Oct. 25 for the "Fourth Annual Taiwan-Canada Bilateral Trade Consultation Meeting", where a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on promoting bilateral investment was signed.
The MOU was signed with representatives of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada and the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei, and is now in effect. The Taiwan-Canada MOU on investment promotion represents the 17th partnership agreement of its kind signed by Taiwan and its investment partners.
The MOU states that the two sides promise to provide support for exchange visits between companies interested in investment; to support the implementation of investment projects; to promote bilateral meetings between industry professionals and investors; and to provide information to investors on major industries and services. The MOU also states that the two sides will jointly study and discuss action programs; designate future priority industries that possess potential; strengthen bilateral investment; and jointly implement corporate exchanges while promoting industrial cooperation.
The
MOEA Department of Investment Services and the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei also held an event entitled "A Discussion Seminar on Canadian Investment and Technology" on Oct. 23. The event provided Taiwan companies with an understanding of Canada's investment environment,
IT industry development, and potential areas for cooperation, as well as helping Taiwan businesses extend their global presence. At the event, the signing of the MOU was announced, and was heralded as a new advancement in Taiwan and Canadian bilateral investment ties.
