Taiwanese flat panel maker AUO was the top producer of flat panel displays in Aug, according to a recent report by industry analyst group DisplaySearch.
AUO delivered 7.6 million flat panel screens in Aug, edging out for the first time top competitors Samsung and LPL (LG Philips), which posted deliveries of 7.4 million and 7.3 million panels, respectively.
AUO held the highest global share, at 20.6%, with Samsung and LPL each holding around 20%. AUO was the top supplier for flat screen TVs and LCD monitors, and the third-ranked supplier for notebook computers.
Also, August marked the first time that Chi Mei Optoelectronics squeezed past Samsung to rank the world’s no. 3 for LCD TV panel deliveries.
According to DisplaySearch statistics, in Aug. all flat panel manufacturers delivered a total of 7.9 million LCD TV screens, 17.4 million LCD monitor screens, and 10.5 million notebook computer screens, showing growth of 57%, 29%, and 46%, respectively.
Large screen panels accounted for nearly half or more of the deliveries of the top three manufacturers – large screens accounted for 64.3% of deliveries by AUO, 49.9% for Samsung and 79.2% for LPL.
