Taiwan's IC packaging and testing companies comprised more than half of all global output in 2006, according to a report recently released by the Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK), a division of the Industrial Technology Research Institute.
The recently released report by the IEK attests to Taiwan's competitiveness in the field, said industry figures. Taiwan is the world's top producer for IC packaging and testing.
According to the IEK statistics, Taiwan's IC packaging industry produced output of
USD 6.486 billion, growing 18.4% over the previous year, while accounting for 51.2% of global output -- the first time Taiwan has surpassed the 50% mark.
IC testing industry output totaled
USD 2.843 billion, growing 37%, accounting for 63% of global output, which increased 62.5% over the previous year.
The IEK statistics also showed that Taiwan is sitting comfortably as the world's top semiconductor chip OEM, holding 68.4% of the global market. Taiwan OEMs last year showed an output of
USD 13.471 billion, growing 17.2% over the previous year.
Taiwan industries comprised 25%, 47.5% and 55% of output for DRAM, IC drivers for large screen flat panel displays, and DVD decoder chips, respectively.
Taiwan's IC industry output in 2006 surpassed
NTD 1.39 trillion, growing 24.6% over the previous year, eclipsing the semiconductor industry's 8.9% growth.
