Quanta Computer, Taiwan's world-leading notebook computer ODM/OEM, is looking to shift part of its business to consumer electronics and looking to increase cooperation with Philips, said Quanta president Michael Wang.
Wang was invited to Hong Kong for Philips' "Simplicity Event", the company's annual concepts and designs showcase, at the invitation of Philips CEO/President Gerard Kleisterlee. At the meeting, they discussed future cooperation in developing the Asia-Pacific market.
Quanta will ship over 25 million notebook computers with revenues projected to reach nearly
USD 20 billion, said Wang. While the company has seen enormous success with notebook computers, it is looking to develop its "non-notebook" business, noting that it has not given up on the mobile phone market.
Quanta aims to reduce its notebook production capacity to 75% of its business and focus on developing consumer electronics, said Wang.
In recent years, Philips has been moving away from mass production electronics and shifting more towards medical care, fashion, and core technologies, said Philips Consumer Electronics CEO Rudy Provoost. Philips also has changed its past production methods and as 80% of its products are now manufactured by OEMs, its relationship with Taiwan companies continues to grow, he said.
