Dupont is launching a flat panel display testing lab in Q3 of this year, according to a recent announcement by the company.
The US chemicals manufacturer is building the lab in anticipation of working with local flat panel manufacturers, including AUO and Chi Mei Optoelectronics, to develop 7G and 8G technologies for LCD plants.
Dupont is optimistic about the development of Taiwan's electronics and high-tech industries and will continue to invest in Taiwan, particularly in the
R&D field, said Walt Cheng, chairman and president of Dupont Taiwan. On a global scale, Dupont spends between
USD 1.2 and 1.3 billion annually on research.
Dupont already operates several facilities in Taiwan devoted to
R&D for materials technology, automotive paint, and solar cells. The company expects to hire between 20 to 30 new personnel for the new laboratory.
Cheng believes that Dupont's new lab can benefit its Taiwan clients. As LCD factories evolve to produce 7G and 8G panels, the new lab will be able to work closely with flat panel manufacturers and respond quickly to their needs, he said.
Last year Dupont launched its Semiconductor Materials Technical Center (SMTC) last year, which is devoted to developing copper manufacturing materials.
Dupont is also aiming to develop green energy applications. The company also recently formed a solar cell laboratory in Taoyuan, and counts Motech and E-ton, Taiwan's foremost solar cell producers, as its clients.
Business revenues at Dupont from green energy products are expected to rise between 20% to 30% this year, said Cheng.
