US aerospace company Boeing has placed orders with Taiwan's top science and technology research institute for a newly developed density standard liquid, according to an announcement by the Industrial Research and Technology Institute (
ITRI).
Density standard liquids are used to test and measure concentration of liquid substances, and have applications in a variety of manufacturing sectors, ranging from food, LCD flat panels and IC production to quality control in milk production.
ITRI is the first in Taiwan to develop a density standard liquid on its own, said Duann Jia-ruey, director of the
ITRI Center for Measurement Standards (CMS), which developed the product. Duann says that
ITRI's density standard liquid stands apart from that produced in the US, UK, and Japan for its high stability, low volatility, and non-poisonous characteristics. In addition,
ITRI's version can be reused after being unsealed, which makes it both safe and environmentally-friendly, he added.
Boeing, which learned about
ITRI's density standard liquid on the institute's website, was attracted by
ITRI's comparatively lower prices and the availability of customized orders at half the market price. The aircraft manufacturing giant plans to use
ITRI's product for quality testing of standard liquids in aircraft fuel and brake oil, according to the Economic Daily News.
Density standard liquids are also in demand in Taiwan, and Duann predicts that
ITRI will be able to supply a domestic market worth up to nearly
NTD 30 million.
Boeing's choice of
ITRI affirms the institute's international-level standards for its chemicals testing technologies, said Duann.
