To respond to a growing market in Southern Taiwan,
DHL Express Taiwan has launched a new logistics center in Tainan County. The facility, located in Rende Township and built at a cost of
NTD 56 million, officially opened for business on Dec. 20, 2006.
The Taiwan logistics market has seen double digit growth, and
DHL is even considering expanding its facilities at the Taoyuan International Airport to provide more efficient transport services, according to Chen Shuo-feng,
DHL Transport Department Director.
The Tainan Service Center completes
DHL Taiwan's "Establishing Roots in Taiwan" plan created in 2000, which called for an investment of
NTD 1 billion to build 10 large service centers across the island to improve transport services and quality.
The new logistics center handles over 2,000 goods and packages, double the capacity of its center at Tainan Airport, according to Chen.
DHL has operated out of the Tainan Airport for over 25 years, and was the first international logistics company to set up a service center in Tainan.
With its new center,
DHL will remain proactive in providing its customers with customized services and products to meet logistics solutions needs.
The soon-to-be-launched high speed rail system -- which presents tough competition to all airline carriers in Western Taiwan -- is not expected to have any significant impact within a half year of its launch, said Chen.
As economic development and customer demand has expanded in the greater Tainan area, particularly at the Southern Taiwan Science Park, the new service center will provide even more efficient global logistics services, said Chen.
DHL is also planning for an additional service gateway at Kaohsiung International Airport to serve companies exporting goods from Southern Taiwan, said Stuart Whiting, General Manager of
DHL Express Taiwan.
