The Industrial Technology and Research Institute (
ITRI) has formed the "Nano Testing Lab" to address inferior quality "nano" products currently flooding the market. The lab, which has already received certification from the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF), will serve to check on nano products made in Taiwan by offering international-grade certification and testing.
The "Nano Testing Lab" has set a new milestone for measurement standards and testing for nanotechnology in Taiwan, and is a key element for continuing to develop the nanotechnology industry in Taiwan, said a spokesperson from
ITRI.
The lab hopes to assist the industry in carrying out nano product
R&D and product quality control, while also stimulating development in industries involving nano-scale testing, said the spokesperson.
In being recognized by TAF and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation group, reports released by
ITRI's nanotechnology laboratories will be backed by international standards and can be used all over the world, said Su Tsung-Tsan, Director of the Nanotechnology Research Center at
ITRI.
According to
ITRI, the new lab is planting the seed for the development of an industry platform composed of an alliance of laboratories devoted to performing testing for nano-scale products.
The NTRC Common Laboratories, the name for the network of
ITRI's laboratories focused on nanotechnology, are capable of conducting nano-scale measurements -- a key element in testing -- and determining the composition and state of nano-scale products.
