The printed circuit board (PCB) industry is expected to perform well next year, according to TJ Tseng, Chairman of the Taiwan Printed Circuit Association (TPCA).
The industry exceeded all expectations in Q3 this year, and is expected to grow further by 10% in Q4, said Tseng.
Tseng's comments came on the heels of the 2006 TPCA Show -- also known as the Taiwan PCB Exhibition EA Expo -- which took place in mid-October. Representatives of over 280 companies from all over the world came to Taipei for the show, which boasted over 1,300 displays.
Taiwan's PCB industry is proving itself as a development leader, evident in the exhibition's IC Substrate Technology display, which was the focus of this year's show, said Tseng. He added that next year's show would be even bigger, expanding to between 1,600 and 1,700 display exhibits.
Industry output for PCBs totaled
USD 48.7 billion, a strong performance which reflects that the industry has been able to handle rising prices on energy and raw materials, said Tseng.
Although additional challenges are arising with new WEEE and ROHS environmental regulations taking effect, many manufacturers have already made preparations, said Tseng.
The PCB industry's prospects next year look good as major opportunities are expected to arise in Flip-Chip Chip Scale Package technology, as well as CPU and game console demand, said Tseng.
