Viewing Taiwan as having e-commerce potential, eBay, the world's largest auction website, has launched a new platform that allows local sellers to sell their goods overseas.
As it provides access to international markets, eBay's services are unmatched inTaiwan. The company has managed to cultivate a niche market in Taiwan, claiming 1.2 million users.
In the past three to six months, up to 600,000 have engaged international transactions, said Kerry Wong, managing director of eBay in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
This year in Q2, business volume for Taiwan companies selling on eBay rocketed to 88% growth over last year, according to Wong.
Wong added that after the new platform is established, sellers not only can have access to platforms from 33 other countries, but will also be able to utilize other services, which include the latest market price quotation searches for all countries, tracking for popular items, and other business analysis tools.
Wong anticipates that next year growth in eBay's international transaction amounts will surpass the growth margins of Taiwan's entire e-commerce industry.
Taiwan has many small and medium-sized companies are interested in international markets but don't have the time or resources to gain access to potential buyers, said Chen Zan-yu, eBay's international market development director.
eBay's new platform allows sellers exposure within 24 hours and helps save time and energy on marketing, said Chen.
According to eBay statistics, cosmetics, computer electronics, collectibles, motorcycle parts, and athletic products are the top-five selling products in Taiwan.
