Flat panel displays enjoyed strong sales in Q3, according to the Industrial Technology Research Institute's Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK).
The IEK has projected 19.5% and 18.6% year-on-year growth rates for Q3 and Q4 2006 respectively, with industry output worth
NTD 302.8 in Q3 and
NTD 383.3 billion in Q4.
Flat panel shipments and prices have rebounded thanks to back-to-school demand and an inventory build-up for the Christmas season by electronics vendors, according to
ITRI analyst Jim Chung.
The increased demand has stabilized 32" panel prices while slowing the price decline for TV panels, said Chung.
Medium and small-size LCD panels have also seen shipment increases, as fourth generation production of TFT-LCD panels have turned to mobile phones, handheld devices, and automotive applications. Manufacturers saw a 15% increase in Q3 from Q2, and output in 2006 is expected to surpass 2005 by 22.4%.
The improved forecasts have prompted an increase in sales estimates for LCD panel sales in 2006 from
NTD 779.85 billion to
NTD 830.9 billion.
