19-inch Widescreen Monitors Sales Grow 147% in Q2

September 28, 2006

According to statistics from flat-panel industry research and consulting group Display Search, Q2 global LCD monitor output reached almost 30 million units, beating projections by 3%. 19-inch widescreen monitors performed particularly well, showing growth of 147%.

According to Display Search, Q2 performance for LCDs exceeded expectations, mainly due to major growth from the Mainland China and Latin America markets, with 26% and 37% growth respectively over Q1. Sales in the two regions particularly surprised industry watchers, growing by 175% and 146% respectively -- the fastest in the world.

According to Display Search, growth in widescreen panel sales have been slower in Europe and North America due to the fact that many companies in these regions are slower to switch operating systems, and have more complicated purchasing standards. Emerging markets do not face these problems in replacing technology products, which partly explains faster growth in widescreen panel sales, said Display Search.

Display Search statistics also showed that widescreen panel markets hold the biggest share of the market in North America, comprising 9.7%, followed by China at 9.3%, emerging economies, 9.2%, Europe 5.6%, and Japan 4.3%.

Global statistics for LCD monitors in Q2 show that 17-inch monitors hold the largest share at 52.7%, 19-inch monitors at 25.7%, 15-inch monitors at 11.8%, 19-inch monitors at 4.1%, and 20-inch monitors at 2.1%.

The statistics showed the flat screen brands with the highest market share were Dell, with a 20.1% share, Samsung at 11.3%, HP at 9.5%, Acer at 6.9%, Viewsonic at 5.5%, and Lenovo at 4.9%.
