Construction of the Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park is slated to begin at the end of the month, with four major facilities to be launched in 2009, according to Park officials.
Under the current timetable for the park, companies will be able to move in when basic facilities are completed in June 2007; all facilities will be completed by the end of 2008, which will pave the way for the launch of the park's four major facilities: a research center, an incubation center, an industrial
R&D center, and a clinical research center.
A number of organizations are handling planning and implementation of the park. Several university organizations, including National Taiwan University's public works engineering department, were commissioned to develop plans for the park, according to Randy Yeh, deputy director of the Hsinchu Science Park Administration.
The next stage for the park has already been passed on to the National Science Council, which has formed a 19-person task force committee to handle implementation to be headed by Academia Sinica member Chen Yuan-Tsong. Hsinchu Science Park Administration Director-General James J. Lee will head the Biomedical Science Park Planning Office upon its completion.
Backed by government plans to invest
NTD20 million, the Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park has been conceived as a biotechnology park for medical research.
