Institute for Information Industry is offering exclusive patent licensing for the first time. The patents are divided into four portfolios, including embedded technology, multi-media technology, wired and wireless network communications technology. III is offering a total of 227 patents, with the price tag for a single patent above NT$1 million. The total reference price for all available patents is more than NT$300 million.
Institute for Information Industry has been successful in their
R&D efforts thanks to financial support from the Technology Development Plan, initiated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2003 to promote non-profit industrial technology
R&D. In the past III provided only technology transfers but recently decided to add exclusive licensing as a way to boost the strength and potential of Taiwan’s software companies.
These 227 patents are the fruits of
R&D conducted by the Network and Multimedia Research Institute, which boasts the highest number of patents of any research group under the aegis of Institute for Information Industry. For the second phase of the project, III plans to license patents from the Innovative Digitech-Enabled Applications & Services Institute to assist Taiwan-based companies in strengthening their e-Commerce software capabilities.
Following the enactment of the Fundamental Science and Technology Act, beginning in 2003 III and other research organizations, as well as Taiwan colleges and universities, began to offer their patents to Taiwan companies through public bidding or licensing.
