Agricultural equipment giant AGCO plans to increase procurement in Taiwan by 53% for a total of
USD 2.6 million, the company announced at a procurement seminar at the Taipei World Trade Center in early July.
The manufacturer of the world's top-selling tractor sent a delegation to Taiwan for the seminar on July 4. The delegation was seeking to purchase electronic auto components, rubber tires, and steering wheels from Taiwan manufacturers, said a representative from the Taiwan External Trade Association (TAITRA).
Local manufacturers that AGCO deems as qualified will have a rare opportunity to access AGCO's expansive overseas supply chain, which spans 3,600 locations in 140 countries, the representative added.
The Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs has been working in recent years to help Taiwan's auto components manufacturer tap into global auto parts supply chains. TAITRA first sent a delegation to AGCO's headquarters in London in 2004, which resulted in AGCO sending subsequent delegations to Taiwan and the establishment of a procurement office in Taiwan in 2005.
The TAITRA representative also noted that David Furr, vice president of purchasing and materials in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East (EAME) for AGCO, expressed high praise for Taiwan's technical capabilities.
AGCO's procurement delegation in Taiwan included the highest-ranking purchasing officials of the company's major subsidiaries in France, Germany, and Finland.
This past year, TAITRA has held over 30 procurement meetings and over 300 face-to-face negotiation meetings between local suppliers and international makers.
