The Ministry of Economic Affairs (
MOEA) officially inaugurated the Taiwan Industrial Greenhouse Office (TIGO) in mid-June.
The new office was formed to fulfill a goal made in 2000 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 10% by the year 2015.
TIGO also underlines the
MOEA's acknowledgement of environmental issues, in light of global initiatives such as the Kyoto Protocol and the European Union's RoHS directive.
Along with the
MOEA Industrial Greenhouse Gas Reduction Task Force, TIGO will integrate resources from various
MOEA agencies, including the Industrial Development Bureau, Bureau of Energy, Department of Industrial Technology, and the State-Owned Enterprise Commission.
At the inauguration gathering, Minister of Economic Affairs Huang Ing-san said that the establishment of TIGO represented a further step towards achieving the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
TIGO's main tasks will focus on strategic planning, coordination among agencies, technological development, international cooperation and general promotion of its goals.
