Taiwan mobile phone shipments are likely to reach a record high for a single quarter in Q2 2006, according to a report by the Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK).
IEK, a research division of the Industrial Technology and Research Institute, projected that mobile phone shipments could reach 39.18 million units, a 26.88% increase over Q1 2006. Output is estimated at
NTD 81.46 billion, a 27.28% increase over Q1. The increase is largely attributed to BenQ's purchase of Siemens' mobile phone division, which has spawned a rise in orders.
And while the
IT industry is entering the traditionally slow period of May and June, there are no signs that the mobile phone industry is slowing down. Robust growth is expected to continue from a strong Q1 2006 and Q4 2005.
The IEK report also noted that with increased mobile phone orders, the wireless communications industry could reach an output of
NTD 126.2 billion in Q2, an increase of 73.1% over Q2 2005. The report also projected that the Q2 output for the broadband internet industry would total
NTD 43 billion, and the output for the entire telecom industry
NTD 169.2 billion, a 53.2% increase over Q2 2005.
