Statistics recently released by the Ministry of Economic Affairs Investment Commission show that Canadian investment in Taiwan surged in 2005, growing by 789.41% over 2004, the largest increase of the 64 countries investing in Taiwan.
According to
MOEA statistics, Canada was the 12th largest investor in Taiwan in 2005, with overseas Chinese investment from Canada ranking second after the US. In terms of actual investment amounts, Canada ranked 14th in Taiwan, investing a total of
USD 15.8 million.
This large increase has been attributed in part to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada, which has undertaken a concerted effort to establish active contacts with Canadian companies and educate them on Taiwan's trade strength and investment environment.
