Fueled by strong global demand, Taiwan exports hit yet another new record high in May, according to figures from the Ministry of Finance (MOF).
Overseas sales reached
USD 18.93 million, a 10.5% increase on last year, with machinery and high-tech exports growing 12.6% percent to
USD 9.1 billion.
Year-on-year exports saw an increase of 12.2% in the first five months of 2006, totaling
USD 87.91 billion. Exports to Hong Kong and the US, Taiwan's top export destinations, rose 16.9% and 11.8%, respectively.
The MOF also noted a trade surplus of over
USD 6.5 million in the first five months, an increase of 77% over the same period one year ago.
