Taiwan will remain the world's largest supplier of flat-panel displays in the next few years, accounting for between 40 and 45 percent of the world market, according to DisplaySearch, a US market research and consulting firm.
DisplaySearch predicts that Taiwan will remain ahead of South Korea, whose production comprises 38 to 39 percent of the world total.
Taiwan accounted for 41.5% of industry production, surpassing for South Korea for the first time, who accounted for 39.8%.
Competition between the two countries is growing, as Taiwan's AU Optronics recently announced its take-over of Quanta Display, a merger that should bring AU Optronics' industry capacity to 18%. The industry capacity of South Korea's Samsung and LG Phillips comprises 19% each, according to DisplaySearch.
