The Ministry of Economic Affairs recently announced statistics showing increases in manufacturing sales and exports in April.
Manufacturing sales in Q1 totaled
NTD 2.54 trillion (
USD 79.15 billion), an increase of 8.72% over last year. Domestic sales totaled over
NTD 1.3269 trillion -- 52.14% of all goods -- an increase of 3.33% over last year. Direct foreign sales totaled
NTD 1.2179 trillion, an increase of 15.28%.
The
MOEA also said that export orders from January to April totaled
USD 91.99 billion, a 20% increase over the same period last year.
Electronic components held the strongest showing with sales of
NTD 666.7 billion, a growth of 37.48%.
MOEA attributes the increase to rising demand for electronics in the third world, which has boosted business for the chip, IC manufacturing, IC packaging, LCD, and LED industries.
Export orders, which are indicators of pending export shipments, increased by 18.57% in April to
USD 24.68 billion, the second-highest single-month total after March's record
USD 24.94 billion. An
MOEA official said that export figures in May could see double digit growth on last year.
Demand for electronics, information communication technology, and precision machinery looks favorable despite rising oil prices and appreciation of the New Taiwan Dollar, said the official.
