On April 9 at the BIO 2006 convention in Chicago, Minister without Portfolio Ferng-ching Lin said that the Taiwan's Investigational New Drug (IND) process, designed for clinical testing on drugs – has been shortened to 42 days. Lin said that the process in Taiwan is now faster than that of the European Union, and lags behind only the United States, making Taiwan one of the most efficient locations for drug testing.
Speaking to an audience of approximately 200 people at the biotechnology convention, Lin remarked that the expedited IND timetable would encourage more international manufacturers to consider Taiwan as a location for clinical testing. Lin pointed out that the IND process takes 30 days in the US and 60 days in the EU.
In addition, Lin noted that Taiwan's IND process was shortened by eliminating a redundant review process by an agency outside the Center for Drug Evaluation.
