Hon Hai receives most patents in Taiwan in 2005

Hon Hai Precision Industry submitted 1,886 applications for patents and received approval for 1,018 patents in 2005, making it the top company for approved patents in Taiwan last year, according to figures released by the MOEA Intellectual Property Office in mid January. Hon Hai's figures were far ahead of Industrial Technology Research Institute, which came in second with 889 patent applications and 540 approved patents.

Although, ITRI trailed Hon Hai for total patents in 2005, the institute was the leader for approved invention patents, with 508 to Hon Hai's 104.

The top foreign enterprises for patent applications in Taiwan in 2005 were Royal Philips Electronics, with 882 applications, Samsung, with 712, and Sony, with 577. For patent approvals, the leading foreign enterprises were Sony, with 442 approved patents, Epson, with 342, and Intel, with 313.
