Chunghwa Telecom and Microsoft signed an agreement in late January under which the partners will team up to provide
IT services and promote digital home services.
Targeting small and medium enterprises in Taiwan, Hongkong and China, the agreement calls for CHT to provide network infrastructure and for Microsoft to be responsible for constructing operating platforms.
Services will include teleconference systems and information system integration applications. The next step under this agreement will take advantage of CHT's digital content services and ADSL network to promote digital homes in Taiwan.
Microsoft will also provide 60 seed instructors in order to offer training to CHT personnel that will allow them to obtain qualifications as Microsoft certification training instructors.
In addition to these business efforts, the partners will also take part in a Changhwa County community project aimed at creating greater digital access for children in remote areas and disadvantaged people. For this project, Microsoft will supply software and CHT will donate used computers and provide ADSL services.
