Cathay Financial Holding Co., with its total assets of
NTD 2.78 trillion, remains the business group in Taiwan with the most assets, according to a survey conducted by China Credit Information Service.
The survey shows that the top ten companies in Taiwan by assets are in order Cathay, Shin Kong Group, Mega Holdings, CITIC Holdings, Formosa Plastics Group, Hua Nan Commercial Bank, Fubon Group, First Commercial Bank, Chang Hwa Bank and Taiwan Business Bank. With the exception of Formosa, all of the top ten are financial institutions, and seven of these are financial holding companies.
CCIS points out that, with the government actively promoting acquisitions and mergers among Taiwanese financial institutions, there is the likelihood that the top ten rankings for assets in Taiwan will see some changes over the next two years.
Looking at revenues, however, it is Formosa Plastics Group that is the nation's leader. It racked up revenues of
NTD 1.2 trillion in 2004. Back in second and third places are Hon Hai Precision Industry and Cathay Financial with revenues of
NTD 621.1 billion and
NTD 600.5 billion respectively.
