Watsons began operations at its largest distribution headquarters in Asia in early December. Located in Taoyuan County, Watsons has invested
NTD 50 million in the center. The center, which required five years to complete, provides 6,500 ping (one ping is approximately 36 square feet) of floor space and modern low-temperature storage areas. These cold storage facilities are essential to maintaining the quality of such important Watsons products as chocolate and cosmetics.
Watsons, which presently operates 397 stores around Taiwan, supplies an amazing 70% of all chocolate consumed in Taiwan each year. And, as an example of how important cosmetics sales are to the retailer, it also sells 60% of all cosmetic facial masks sold in Taiwan.
These days, customers in Taiwan pay an average of one million visits to a Watsons each week, meaning over four million visits per month. Watsons, which has been enjoying double-digit growth in revenues, intends to open 50 new outlets in Taiwan in 2006.
