Production value in Taiwan's service sector accounted for 70.5% of the nation's gross domestic product in the first half of the year, surpassing the 70% mark for the first time, the Council for Economic Planning and Development reported in early November.
The CEPD predicts that the service sector will make up 70.41% of
GDP for all of 2005. Not only is this higher than the 68.72% recorded for 2004, it is an increase of 10% over the 60.15% level in 1995. That the percentage of
GDP coming from the service sector has continued to grow, even through the relatively lower economic growth experienced from 2001 to 2003, highlights the growth power of this sector and the ability of Taiwan's economic structure to adapt.
At the same time, Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics figures show that Taiwan's environmental
GDP rose
NTD 68.6 billion from 2002 to
NTD 8.647 trillion in 2003.
The council says that these statistics indicate that Taiwan's economy is more and more becoming streamlined and adaptive as well as environmentally friendly.
