The combined production value (including overseas production) of Taiwan's major information technology hardware products rose 16.8% on the year to
USD 34.4 billion in the first half of the year, according to the latest statistics from the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics. Among these products, personal data assistants (PDA) saw the highest growth, up 97.5% to
USD 1.43 billion.
Taiwanese companies produced 6.19 million PDA in this period, an increase of 60.8% on the year.
While PDA experienced the biggest increase, notebook computers, with a production value of
USD 13.13 billion, accounted for 38% of Taiwan's
IT hardware production value in the first half of the year. This makes notebooks the largest contributor to Taiwan's
IT hardware production value for this period. Taiwanese firms manufactured 20.39 million notebooks computers in the first six months of the year.
