The
MOEA Investment Commission approved the investment projects of four foreign enterprises in Taiwan at the end of July. These investments have a combined value of
USD 530 million.
Of these investment projects, Sumitomo Marine and Fire Insurance Co.'s investment of
USD 265.4 million in Mingtai Fire and Marine Insurance Co. is the largest. Mingtai is the second largest non-life insurance company in Taiwan in terms of gross written premiums.
Himax Cayman also received approval for its capital increase application to acquire all of the stock in Himax Technologies for
USD 115.6 million, making Himax Technologies the fully-owned subsidiary of Himax Cayman. Himax Technologies, part of the Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp. business group, is Taiwan's second largest LCD driver and IC design company.
Also at the end of July, the Investment Commission approved eleven Taiwanese investment projects in China with a total value of
USD 141.7 million. The largest of these is Nan Ya Plastics' investment of
USD 37 million in a bisphenol A (BPA) subsidiary in Ningpo.
From June 20 to July 19, the commission approved 182 foreign investment projects in Taiwan with a total value of
USD 189.2 million, 81 Taiwanese investment projects in countries other than China with a combined value of
USD 198.8 million, and 240 Taiwanese investment projects in China with a total value of
USD 372.2 million.
