Travelers from overseas have visited Taiwan 1.646 million times in the first half of the year, an increase of 18.1% on the year, according to the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics. The number of visits by travelers from Japan and Singapore increased 43.9% and 42.9% respectively on the year, the largest increases based on nationality in this period.
Japanese travelers racked up the most trips to Taiwan in this period, accounting for 33.2% of all visits with a total of 547,000 visits. People from Hongkong and Macao, with a combined 212,000 visits, posted the second highest number of visits, while visitors from the United States had the third highest number at 197,000.
With the government promoting Taiwan Tourism Year this year the number of people visiting Taiwan for travel fun has increased 46.1% on the year to 646,000 visits, making tourism the most common reason for visiting Taiwan in this period. The second most common purpose was business.
