Microsoft opened its Southern Taiwan Office in Kaohsiung in mid June. In addition to allowing Microsoft to provide prompt service and support to its over 1,000 partners and clients in southern Taiwan, the office will help the US software giant introduce the benefits of such applications as supply chain management systems, e-commerce systems and customer service systems to heavy industry and traditional manufacturing companies in the south.
The office's opening was attended by heavyweight government officials and business executives including the Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chi-mai.
With the Southern Taiwan Science Park up and running and the High Speed Railway soon to start rolling, Mayor Chen said that southern Taiwan is ripe for the development of high-potential information technology industries and that Kaohsiung City is striving to develop such areas as digital content, video imagery and mobile broadband services.
