LCD monitors outpace CRT monitors 9 to 1 in first quarter

July 4, 2005

Taiwan's output of personal computer monitors in the first quarter of the year reached 469,103, according to a survey conducted by the global information and telecommunications technology consultancy IDC. This marks an increase of 9% compared to the first quarter of 2004.

It is noteworthy that the output volume for liquid crystal display monitors totaled 427,517, while the volume for cathode ray tube monitors was just 41,586 units. With the ratio of LCD monitors to CRT monitors at nine to one, this is the first time CRT monitors have accounted for less than 10% of total output.

The leaders of the branded market for LCD monitors in the first quarter were Chi Mei Corp.'s CMV/Polyview, Acer, Viewsonic and BenQ. These four brands accounted for 73.7% of the LCD monitor market in this period.
