The
MOEA Small and Medium Enterprise Administration has commissioned the Information Service Industry Association to implement its "Plan to Reduce the Digital Gap." This program aims to assist hundreds of thousands of small and medium enterprises hook up broadband connections and develop e-commerce systems in order to boost their competitiveness and help them bring in more business.
The program will run for four years from now up through 2008. Its specific target is to get 100,000 domestic SME connected to the Internet through speedy broadband lines and set up e-commerce websites for 150,000 SME.
The
MOEA estimates that the program will help generate
NTD 7.3 billion in business each year the program is under implementation.
The
MOEA notes that while large businesses have the resources to digitalize their operations, SME require government support and guidance to step into the profitable world of ecommerce.
