Japan Synthetic Rubber Co. Ltd held a groundbreaking ceremony for the future site of JSR Micro Taiwan Co. Ltd at the Central Taiwan Science-based Industrial Park Yunlin Huwei Base on June 1. Construction of JSP's new Taiwan plant is expected to be completed in 2006, and mass production will start shortly thereafter. With an initial investment of
NTD 200 million, the new JSP plant will mainly produce color pigment dispersed resists for TFT-LCD displays.
JSR is the world's largest producer of color photoresists, and formed JSR Micro Taiwan to address market demand from flat-panel and color lens manufacturers in Taiwan. Originally a rubber manufacturer, JSR expanded its operations in 1988 to include sales of LCD materials. JSR's LCD-related products include photosensitive spacers, color pigment dispersed resists, retardation film, and heat-resistant transparent resin for alignment film.
In attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony were JSR Chairman Mr. Akira Tsuiji, Vice-Minister of Economics Shih Yen-hsiung, Central Taiwan Science-based Industrial Park Bureau Head Li Jie-mu, and representatives from the Industrial Development Bureau and the Industrial Development and Investment Center. JSR President Mr. Yoshinori Yoshida also traveled from Japan to attend the ceremony, underlining the high importance that the company places on its Taiwan operations.
JSR color photoresist products comprise almost 50% of the Taiwan market, and many Taiwan semiconductor and optoelectronics companies are JSR clients. JSR's latest investment project will help upstream materials suppliers in Taiwan's display industry and improve the development of Taiwan's entire display industry supply chain. With the establishment of its Taiwan plant, JSP offers a stable and fast supply conduit for its Taiwan flat-panel manufacturers at lower production costs.
At the ceremony Vice-Minister Shih welcomed JSR Micro Taiwan and expressed his wishes to JSR for smooth and prosperous operations. JSR's presence will help speed up the development of Taiwan's display industry while raising the industry's international competitiveness. The
MOEA looks forward to a prosperous future in the image display industry with JSR.
