Illegal credit card charges at seven-year low in 2004

May 17, 2005

The issuance of silicon chip credit cards has led to some great results in Taiwan.

According to Visa International, the volume of illegal credit card transaction fell to 0.04% of all transactions as of the end of 2004. This is 83% lower than the record-high level of 0.34% posted in 2000.

This 0.04% rate means that for every NTD 10,000 charged to credit cards in Taiwan, just NTD 4 is from illegal transactions, far better than the equivalent of NTD 7 for the Asia Pacific region and NTD 9 globally.
