Taiwanese brands scored among the top brands in 35 out of 42 categories in Reader's Digest's 2005 survey of the hottest brands in Taiwan released in late April.

Taiwan's top filling stations are Chinese Petroleum Corp. and Formosa Petrochemical Corp. Cathay Life is the nation's favorite domestic insurance brand, while Kinmen Kaoliang sorghum liquor is the favored local liquor. China Airlines and EVA Air received the most votes among domestic airlines. Acer, arguably Taiwan's strongest global brand, also scored a top ranking again this year.

Brands that have consistently received top rankings in the seven years Reader's Digest has conducted this survey include: Mercedes Benz and Toyota for their cars, Hyatt for its hotels, Acer and IBM for their computers, Motorola and Nokia for their mobile phones, Canon and Sony for their digitals cameras, YES, Coca-Cola, Hey Song and Kuang Chuan for their beverages, SKII and Shiseido for their cosmetics, Rolex for its watches, and Johnnie Walker for its liquor.

Amway, Nutrilite, Brand's and Centrum all received top rankings in the newly added vitamins/nutritional foods category.

In the new 3C products categories, Epson, Panasonic and Sony claimed top rankings for their video projectors, while Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone and Taiwan Cellular were ranked the best telecom service providers.

Other international brands earning top rankings are Shell, American International Assurance Co. (represented by Nanshan Life/AIG in Taiwan) and household cleaning products brand Dettol.
