April 15, 2005
The Industrial Development and Investment Center (
IDIC) launched the CSR in Taiwan website (
http://csr.idic.gov.tw/en/main.asp) on April 15. Under development for almost a full year, CSR in Taiwan is the first web portal fully devoted to promoting corporate social responsibility among Taiwan-based companies.
The
IDIC notes that as Taiwan multinationals are becoming a more prominent source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), the challenges and pressures they face are bigger than ever. In addition to a competitive business environment, Taiwan companies investing overseas are directly confronted with issues in host countries which concern the environment, labor rights, supply chain management, and social movements.
In light of these considerations, the CSR in Taiwan website aims to help Taiwan companies learn about new business management and operations approaches which are based on the idea of corporate social responsibility. With the site, the
IDIC seeks to help Taiwan corporations improve their image abroad and encourage them to contribute to their local communities.
The website adopts a visual design that is reader-friendly, using warm colors and a simple layout for clear presentation and accessibility. The website content is divided into separate sections covering international CSR news, prominent CSR cases, CSR-related events and also offers information on domestic and international CSR projects, CSR achievements, and international CSR-related standards and guidelines.
While CSR in Taiwan easily serves as a resource for government officials, corporations, the public, media, and academic research organizations, it also seeks to inform international groups -- such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and other non-governmental organizations -- of Taiwan's efforts to promote corporate social responsibility, as well as its aspiration to work with the international community.
CSR in Taiwan may also be accessed through the
IDIC's website (
