Overseas Chinese businesspeople are now eligible to receive special low-interest financing and government investment and business assistance under a new investment promotion program introduced by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission in coordination with the
MOEA and other government agencies. This program is designed to help overseas Chinese return to Taiwan to play a role in Taiwan's economic development.
Qualified individuals and businesses may apply for collateralized or non-collateralized financing through this program. Individuals qualify for up to
NTD 4 million in collateralized loans and
NTD 1 million in non-collateralized loans. Businesses are eligible for up to
NTD 12 million in collateralized loans and
NTD 3 million in non-collateralized loans. Interest rates will be calculated on the basis of the variable interest rate of a two-year time deposit at Chunghwa Post Co. plus annual interest of 1.45%.
In addition to this low-interest financing, qualified investors may also take advantage of existing investment and business assistance programs provided by the OCAC,
MOEA and other government agencies. These programs include training and professional consulting before a business is set up and other assistance after the business is up and running.
Those overseas Chinese with an Overseas Compatriot Identity Certificate or a current Taiwanese passport stamped with an Overseas Compatriot Identity Visa and those registered overseas Chinese businesses qualify to participate in this program.
Further information may be obtained at the OCAC website (
http://www.ocac.gov.tw/) or any Taiwan embassy or representative office overseas.
