The
MOEA is taking action to ensure that Taiwan in able to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions in order to keep the nation in line with the recently activated Kyoto Protocol. One such move is the establishment of three energy conservation technology service task forces that will target the nation's 2,900 largest power consumers. These task forces will provide technological assistance to these big energy users in order to help them improve energy efficiency and cut carbon dioxide emissions. The task forces are also charged with promoting the participation of all other sectors in Taiwan so as to guarantee the effectiveness of the government's energy conservation effects.
The three task forces will be set up based on the special energy conservations needs of industrial, commercial and governmental enterprises and organizations. The industrial task force will mainly target the steel industry and the four other largest power using industries, the electronics industry and thermal power plants. The commercial task force will focus on such enterprises as hospitals, department stores, hotels, warehouse retailer stores and convenience stores. The governmental task force is to provide energy conservation assistance to government agencies and schools.
The
MOEA has also specifically instructed China Steel, Taiwan Power and Chinese Petroleum Corp. to set up their own energy conservation technology service task forces. These task forces will address the special energy conservation needs of these major energy consumers and provide technological assistance to other similar enterprises.
