Acer PC output fourth globally in fourth quarter of 2004

Acer, Taiwan's most recognized international computer brand, produced the world's fourth largest volume of personal computers in the fourth quarter of 2004, according to International Data Corp.

Acer was ranked just fifth globally for PC output for all of 2004. However, the computer company's 34.5% growth rate surpassed the growth of its four leading competitors. Europe is the market primarily driving Acer's growth.

Acer chairperson Wang Chen-tang announced recently the company's goal of becoming the world's third largest PC maker by 2008. Another Acer senior executive said Acer has cut the lead of its competitors in the PC sector, but still has room for growth in notebook computer sales.
