Deal makes Taiwan's TPV Technology world's largest computer display company

January 10, 2005

Taiwan's TPV Technology Ltd. has signed a letter of intent with Royal Philips Electronics to take over the Dutch company's computer display division. This deal will allow TPV Technology to realize its long-term goal of becoming the world's largest PC monitor company, able to sell 35 display units annually. The Taiwanese company will also acquire Royal Philips's entry level Flat TV business as part of the agreement. The deal will cost TPV Technology USD 350 million.

TPV Technology is already the world's second largest computer display company, with annual revenues of USD 2 billion.

Under the deal, Hongkong-listed TPV Technology will also acquire rights to the Philips brand.

Royal Philips will ultimately hold a 30% stake in TPV Technology after newly acquiring 15% of the Taiwanese company's stock.

BusinessWeek has recently ranked TPV Technology 29th in it's list of Info Tech 100 IT companies.
