The Executive Yuan has instructed the Ministry of Economic Affairs to formulate more flexible immigration standards aimed at making it easier for businesspeople from China, the Middle East, Africa, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to attend international conferences and exhibitions in Taiwan.
Revisions being drafted would permit those businesspeople invited to attend
MOEA-approved conferences and exhibitions that are currently subject to immigration regulations requiring a visa or a guarantee attached to a visa to simply apply for landing visas upon arrival in Taiwan. These proposed revisions would apply to businesspeople from the Middle East, Africa, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Also, at present, the visa application procedure for Chinese nationals that wish to visit Taiwan requires an average of at least 21 days. Revisions the
MOEA is working on would allow the ministry in coordination with the Mainland Affairs Council and Ministry of the Interior to process the visa applications of Chinese businesspeople on a special case basis. Chinese businesspeople invited to attend approved conferences and exhibitions or associated with participating companies would qualify to enjoy these more flexible immigration standards.
These are just a couple of the regulations the
MOEA is devising in order to make Taiwan an even more attractive place for holding international conferences and exhibitions.
Taiwan hosts around 20 to 30 international conferences and exhibitions a year, generating
NTD 1 billion in production value for Taiwan. The
MOEA has set a target of raising the annual number of international conferences and exhibitions by ten each year.
