The largest percentage of employment opportunities at foreign companies in Taiwan is for jobs in the manufacturing sector, which account for 30% of the jobs for which Taiwanese are hired at foreign companies, according to statistics released by the online job search service udnjob.com. These statistics show that 25% of openings at foreign companies here are for jobs in the service sector, 16% are for positions at financial institutions, while 6.7% are for technology-related jobs.
The positions foreign companies in Taiwan most seek to fill are those for sales and import/export customer service personnel (34.17%), production technology research and development personnel (12.5%), financial management and accounting personnel (10%), administrative personnel (8.33%), and quality control and inventory management personnel (7.5%).
Udnjob.com points out that although it is not easy to land a job at a foreign enterprise, these figures demonstrate that foreign employers are searching for a wide variety of personnel in Taiwan.
For those job hunters that lack sufficient education and experience, the job service suggests entering at a lower level position and working up the ladder. It adds that not only would this allow the employee to enjoy the benefits of working at a foreign enterprise, more importantly it would give the employee an opportunity to determine whether he or she is capable of adapting to the working culture of a foreign enterprise. Also, because foreign companies prefer to look to employees within their organizations for promotions, the service recommends that local personnel hired by foreign employers take advantage of on-the-job training to enhance their professional skills and create opportunities for advancement within the company.
