Synnex Technology International Corp. has decided to make itself the first in Taiwan to bundle Apple's iTunes digital music software on its personal computers. As the computer company's popular PC brand Lemel is the top selling desktop PC in Taiwan, controlling a 20-25% market share, this is a significant development in the introduction of Apple's online music player software in Taiwan. Synnex claims this move will make iTunes the standard in Taiwan.
Lemel along with Acer, Hewlett-Packard and IBM are the "Four Kings" of Taiwan's desktop PC market.
Synnex has made sure to secure a supply of Apple's iPod MP3 players in order to avoid difficulties consumers have faced in purchasing iPods in Taiwan. The iPod mini sold out within thirty minutes of its release here in early August because only 100 units were provided for Taiwan.
Synnex's main businesses are the wholesaling and distribution of computer parts, personal computers, computer peripherals and software. It also manufactures car phones and mobile phones.
Apple Taiwan has announced plans to open three retail locations in Taipei, one of which will be a flagship store. It also intends to team up with local 7-11 convenience chain stores to sell the silver-color iPod mini around the island.
Apple outsources a large part of its notebook and desktop manufacturing in Taiwan through local
IT hardware manufacturers such as Quanta, Compal and Hon Hai.
