The Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) reports that the number of construction licenses issued in the fist nine months of the year increased 46.6% on the year to 34,078 licenses. Residential housing accounted for most of the floor space of these licenses. The floor space for residential construction increased 71.3% to 13.68 million square meters.
The floor space of all construction licenses in this period increased by 58.8% on the year to 30.91 million square meters.
Residential housing accounted for 45% of the total floor space of all licenses. The floor space of licenses for stores increased 114.7% to 5.72 million square meters, while that for factories increased 83.1% to 3.94 million square meters.
A breakdown by area shows that Kaohsiung City accounted for the greatest amount of construction license floor space at 5.23 million square meters. Taoyuan County and Kaohsiung County ranked second and third with 5.19 and 2.91 million square meters respectively.
